Chantilly Arts et Elegance 2022

Depuis 2014, la France accueille de nouveau un concours d’élégance de classe mondiale. Sous la houlette de Patrick Peter, déjà à l’origine du Tour Auto moderne, ou du Mans Classic, Chantilly Arts et Élégance fête sa 6ème édition en 2022.

Un week-end au vert

Quoi de mieux qu’un parc de 115 hectares, dont 20% de plans d’eau, pour servir d’écrin à de tels bijoux mécaniques ? Le domaine de Chantilly est l’un des « joyaux du patrimoine français ». Les visiteurs peuvent tous les jours venir voir le magnifique château, le Musée Condé, le parc évidémment, les Grandes Écuries et le Musée vivant du Cheval. Cinq jours de festivités, mêlant activités statiques, expositions et activités dynamiques, pour 20 000 personnes qui y sont attendues.

Le déroulé

Jugés par des experts, les constructeurs y présentent leurs concept cars et les collectionneurs, « Les plus Belles Automobiles du Monde ».Quant aux clubs, ils mettent en scène une sélection des plus intéressantes voitures du constructeur et une garden party qui, depuis 2014 rencontre un grand succès. Et là, c’est le public, également invité à ce pique-nique, qui vote pour les départager.

Le concours d’Elegance

Depuis les années 1920, ces concours mettent en avant des constructeurs et ce qu’on appelle maintenant leurs concept-cars. Chaque véhicule est associé à une grande maison de couture. Voici la liste exhaustive:

Grandes Heures Automobiles

For its fourth edition, the Grandes Heures Automobiles 2018 has seen…big! Always in the heart of the Linas-Montlhéry autodrome, this event has put together the ultimate program for any enthusiast. Whether we talk about periods, almost all are represented since the 1960s until today. From the most confidential models to the competition vehicles, just crowned. With two, three or four wheels. And quite honestly, as regulars, we have never seen the paddock so full and the enclosure so packed. Here are a few selected pieces.

Build the legend

A 1971 Martini MK7, papaya color, caught our attention. Nothing to do with the drink, but with Tico Martini. This Frenchman with Italian origins built F3 cars in the 1970s for driving schools, before continuing his career in competition, always in F3 and F2. In F1 also but this last one did not have the same success as the previous ones (1978 season with René Arnoux). Let us also note that the great James Hunt himself participated in the tests of these models in 1970. And that Jean-Luc Salomon scored a nice 2nd place here on a MK5 the same year.

Still on the other side of the Alps, a shark in a beautiful red dress showed its face. A 1961 Ferrari 156 F1 Replica, nicknamed Sharknose due to its front air intakes at the very end of the hood. It is very likely that no original model is still in existence, despite its record of success: it took Phil Hill to the F1 championship. Rarely, this replica is driven here by Arturo Merzario, another former driver who was one of those who stopped to save and rescue Niki Lauda from his terrible accident at the Nurburgring in 1976.

French touch

In contact with the Ferrari, an Alpine A340 « school » of 1969, powered by a 4 cyl. 1.3L of Renault Gordini. It allowed the access to the formulas France to many future pilots. Bernard Darniche, Jean Vinatier and Jean-Claude Andruet came to pay tribute to the French brand. Immanently identifiable, an Avion Voisins » Records » of 1927 made tremble the banking of the autodrome. Its 8 cylinders took it to 17 world records, including the fastest 24-hour record at an average speed of 182 km/h.

Retromobile 2018

This year’s edition -Retromobile 2018- celebrates two major anniversaries. Porsche’s 70th with a large fleet of 911s. Lots of popular 4L, R5 and early A-Types for Renault 120th birthday too. LeMans 24 fans will find a Group-6 gem in the name of the Alpine-Renault A442b.

This very place gathers renowned OEMs and modest restauration garages, alongside classic cars negotiators. Every corner you get a chance to see dozens of Aston Martin DB5, Jaguar E-type, Alfa Romeo, and other wanted collectible beauties.

Among noteworthy stands, Fiskens displayed various Ferrari 250 & Lussos on a stylish plinth. In other words, Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Leonardo reunited. Finally, McLaren F1 glories from the seventies to Mika Hakkinen’s MP4-14 thanks to Richard Mille collection.

Wet Tyres Montlhery Autodrome

An early rainy spring car meeting let some wet tyres at the Autodrome of Linas Montlhery. It follows the path of another local scheduled gathering called Coupes de Printemps. Most of those wheels come by their only means, creating a traffic jam outside the stadium. Once each driver pass checked, they go through the banking’s structure before arriving in the paddock. Reverbs just like any tunnel. Thrills more than just any other tunnel. Let’s point out late-arriving visitors going under the vibrating track thanks to vehicle passings and exhilarating notes!

Once those wet tyres Montlhery welcomes in the special parking, you can seize the variety and quality from the present eclectic plateau. Monoplaces being reunited: a dark blue 1975 Alpine A441 and some french « formules de promotion ». Fancy the sixties more? Here are some Jaguar Type E Lightweight Hard Top Competition, Ford GT40, Ferrari 246 GT Dino. And for the fifties enthusiasts: Porsche 356 A/B, Aston Martin DB4 and Mini Cooper. Just some heated bodies with wet tyres on the Montlhery Autodrome.

Festival Automobile International 2015

The Festival Automobile International (2015) takes place again and henceforth at Invalides’ esplanade. Taking the place of honour: Alpine with the Vision GT concept. It is one of the two present models creadted to be virtually playable in Gran Turismo. The Aston Martin DB100 celebrates the 100th anniversary of the company, and is the second model not to have an all-but-real-life future. Heritage concept cars take the places of honour. BMW M1 Revival, Jaguar F-Type Project 7, F12 TRS and special edition Porsches are displayed here below.

Alpine + Chartres

Alpine + Chartres is a charitable event organized by Lions Club and Renault-Alpine in the city of Chartres. Alpine endurance drivers of this area were here to welcome participants, such as Loïc Duval (24h of Le Mans winner 2013), Paul-Loup Chatin et Anthoine Hubert.

A110-50: celebrating the brand’s 50th anniversary, and based on Renault Dezir.

Endurance models: 2013′ LMP2 A450b and 1968′ A220. This last was conceived to get Le Mans’ overall win in addition to several victories in various categories and thanks to the performance coefficient.

Le Mans Story 2013

Le Mans Story, 2013 edition, takes place in mid summer. Consider this as the yearly alternative of Peter Autos’ Le Mans Classic event. Back to the past, you can revive the vintage atmosphere there too. Except that the drivers don’t focus on being competitive but come for a more casual trackday-like week-end. No celebrities either. They are also limited to the permanent variation track, that is Le Bugatti.

Don’t think this event to be insignificant though. Even if the affluence is far from the famous round-the-clock event, it brings more than 8000 spectators. Each actual category gathers appealing rarities. Either it be seventies GTs and prototypes, to be compared to the LMP1/2, Lotus, Formula 3 Classics, Formula Ford, Group 2 Tourism… Some lucky folks to parade before each session with their club.

Next year, after Le Mans Story 2013 closes its doors, the next edition will be celebrating an icon and a success. The 50th anniversary of Caroll Shelby’s AC Cobra Daytona 24 hours of Le Mans GT 3.0L win. Dan Gurney behind the steering wheel, who got an overall win in 1967 with another american glory: Ford GT40.
